Battle of the Books

Fourth and fifth-grade students are given the chance to take part in the Battle of the Books competition. What is Battle of the Books?

The Battle of the Books list is chosen every year by the North Carolina School Media Association. Stanly County only chooses a part of the book list to use in our competition. Battle of the Books is an oral and written competition. In the first two rounds, students work together to answer oral questions. The question format is as follows:

In which book....?

Students reply to the questions with the title and author.

Questions range from easy to difficult. In the last round of battle, students must write the answer in title and author form independently.

Each round score is totaled to come up with a total score after three rounds. The school with the highest score gets the big county trophy to display at their school until the next competition.
